Starting Corral (Corral)
Rating
A starting corral is a starting sector at a large race into which participants are grouped according to their declared expected pace or time, in order to avoid crowding in the first kilometers.
In detail
At mass marathons with thousands of participants, without corrals fast runners would get stuck behind slower ones at the start, while slower runners would feel pressured to run faster than is comfortable. The corral is usually determined by the time indicated during registration, or by a confirmed result from past races.
How to use it
Indicate a realistic expected time when registering for a race — ending up in too fast a corral creates inconvenience both for you and for the runners around you.
