ITRA (index and points)
Rating
ITRA (International Trail Running Association) is an international trail running organization that assigns difficulty categories to races and maintains a runner rating (the "ITRA index") based on their results.
In detail
The ITRA index (typically ranging from 0 to roughly 900+) is calculated using an algorithm based on results shown at races of varying difficulty, allowing comparison of athletes' fitness across different countries and distances. Many major races (including UTMB) require a certain number of ITRA points for entry.
How to use it
If you're planning to enter a prestigious trail race with a participant limit, check the ITRA points requirements on the race website in advance — accumulating the required number of points can take one or two seasons.
