Foot Strike

Rating

Foot strike is which part of the foot a runner touches the ground with first: the heel (heel strike), the middle (midfoot), or the toe area (forefoot).

In detail

For a long time it was believed that landing on the forefoot was the only correct and "natural" way to run, but modern research finds no clear link between foot strike type and injury risk or running economy on its own — overall cadence and whether the foot lands close under the body or far out in front ("overstriding") matter far more.

How to use it

Don't try to artificially retrain your foot strike without a clear reason (an injury or a specialist's recommendation) — for most experienced runners, a natural foot strike forms on its own as cadence and strength increase.
