Transition Zone (T1 / T2)
Rating
The transition zone is the place where a triathlete changes clothes and gear between race stages. T1 is the swim-to-bike transition, T2 is the bike-to-run transition.
In detail
Time spent in the transition zone counts toward the overall race result, so experienced triathletes have a well-rehearsed sequence of actions (removing the wetsuit, putting on helmet and bike shoes in a matter of seconds) — at the professional level, the difference in transition time can cost a podium spot.
How to use it
Lay out your gear in the transition zone in advance in a clear, logical sequence, and practice the transitions themselves (especially T1) at least a few times before your first race — this saves time and reduces stress during the race.
