General physical preparation (GPP)
Rating
GPP is a set of exercises for general strength, flexibility, coordination, and endurance of stabilizer muscles, not directly tied to a specific sport.
In detail
For runners, GPP usually means strengthening the core, glutes, and stabilizer muscles of the hip and ankle — these areas are rarely loaded by running itself, but their weakness is a common cause of knee injuries and iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS).
How to use it
Even 15-20 minutes of GPP twice a week (plank, glute bridge, single-leg squats) noticeably reduce the risk of typical running injuries — this is one of the few workouts with a high return for a small time investment.
